The team at Knebworth was joined by Councillor Roger Trigg, Mayor of Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council, and local people for Care Home Open Day, a countrywide initiative set up to develop lasting relationships between care homes and local communities, and to dispel common myths about care home life.
This year’s theme celebrated the role of arts within care, which is important in encouraging residents’ self-expression, and helps to create meaningful experiences.
As part of a nationwide competition for all Care UK homes, Knebworth developed a work of art in the lead up to the open day, which was showcased at the event. Visitors enjoyed an art exhibition showcasing two residents creative work, Jill Fewell and Gill Seago, alongside the work of a local artist. Everyone also took part in drawing and painting workshops in the garden.
Vera Moreira-Henocq, home manager at Knebworth, said: “Everyone at Knebworth had an amazing time celebrating with the local community for Care Home Open Day 2019. This year’s theme of ‘Celebrating Arts in Care’ was a wonderful opportunity for us to showcase all the brilliant activities we get up to on a daily basis here at the home.
“We’d like to thank Councillor Triggfor joining us on the special day, and the people of Knebworth have always been welcoming to us, it’s great to host everyone for a day of fun in the sun.”
