The team at Larkland House were joined by local people for Care Home Open Day, a countrywide initiative set up to develop lasting relationships between care homes and local communities, and to dispel common myths about care home life.
This year’s theme celebrated the role of arts within care, which is important in encouraging residents’ self-expression, and helps to create meaningful experiences.
On the day, residents and visitors had the opportunity to polish their artistic skills in an arts and crafts workshop, and were treated to a tasty cream tea specially prepared by Larkland House’s chefs. There was also live entertainment from a reminiscence singer, who got everyone’s toes tapping.
As part of a nationwide competition for all Care UK homes, Larkland House also developed a work of art in the lead up to the open day, which was unveiled at the event.
Maggie Candy, home manager at Larkland House, said: “Everyone at Larkland House had an amazing time celebrating with the local community for Care Home Open Day 2019. This year’s theme of ‘Celebrating Arts in Care’ was a wonderful opportunity for us to showcase all the brilliant activities we get up to on a daily basis here at Larkland House.
“The people of Ascot have always been welcoming to us, so it was great to host everyone for a day of fun in the sun.”
