The team at Elizabeth Lodge were joined by local people for Care Home Open Day, a countrywide initiative set up to develop lasting relationships between care homes and local communities, and to dispel common myths about care home life.
This year’s theme celebrated the role of arts within care, which is important in encouraging residents’ self-expression, and helps to create meaningful experiences.
On the day, residents and visitors were treated to a special drama performance from pupils at Highlands School. Guests also had the opportunity to polish their artistic skills during a pottery painting workshop.
As part of a nationwide competition for all Care UK homes, Elizabeth Lodge also developed a work of art in the lead up to the open day, which was unveiled at the event.
Michelle Sampang, home manager at Elizabeth Lodge, said: “Care Home Open Day is a wonderful opportunity for our home to connect with the local community and show what it’s really like to live in a care home.
We all had a brilliant time welcoming pupils from Highlands School into the home, and on behalf of the team at Elizabeth Lodge I’d like to thank them for their fantastic drama performance. We can’t wait to invite everyone back very soon.”
