There were celebrations all round when the team at Britten Court welcomed the local community in for a day of The Greatest Showman art-themed fun and games.

Britten Court puts on ‘the greatest show’ for Care Home Open Day

The team at Britten Court was joined by local people for Care Home Open Day, a countrywide initiative set up to develop lasting relationships between care homes and local communities, and to dispel common myths about care home life.

This year’s theme celebrated the role of arts within care, which is important in encouraging residents’ self-expression, and helps to create meaningful experiences.

Residents and visitors enjoyed The Greatest Showman art-themed party with stalls, face painting and a live performance from the Seagull Strummers. The event also featured some special furry friends, as visitors w

ere given the chance to meet donkeys from Hemsby Wellbeing Centre, and watch a dog agility display, complete with a meet and greet to get to know the four-legged friends.

As part of a nationwide competition for all Care UK homes, Britten Court developed a work of art in the lead up to the open day, which was showcased at the event.

Chloe Swarbrick, home manager at Britten Court, said: “We had a fantastic time celebrating Care Home Open Day at Britten Court. The residents really enjoyed the Seagull Strummers’ performance and it was brilliant to see so many of our neighbours come along for the party.

“Care Home Open Day is all about welcoming our local community, and showing what life in a care home is really like. We would like to say a big thank you to the people of Lowestoft and of course, our furry friends, for coming along to celebrate with us.”
