Birthday celebrations were in full swing at Care UK’s Cumberland care home, on Whitford Gardens, when resident Daphne Crossley celebrated her birthday. Daphne turned 102 years ‘young’ on 28th May, and revealed the secret to living to this impressive age is being out in the fresh air as much as possible and enjoying life whilst you can.
To celebrate her milestone birthday, Daphne was joined by family, friends and residents for a party hosted by the team at the care home. Everyone toasted Daphne’s good health with a glass of wine and tucked into a slice of birthday cake.
Daphne was born on 28th May 1917, in Fulham. She met the love of her life Gordon and they married and went on to have a son, Phillip. Daphne now has three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Daphne loves to take part in all activities at the home and especially enjoys listening to music from musicals anda strong cup of tea with no sugar.
Mariana Motocu, home manager at Cumberland, said: “We love to celebrate all residents here at Cumberland care home, especially on their birthdays, so it was terrific to be able to commemorate an occasion as special as Daphne’s 102nd birthday.
“It was so fantastic to see Daphne celebrating this incredible milestone with her family and friends. She is quite a character, and has built lovely friendships with residents and the team since moving in. Her secret to a long life is enjoying it while you can, and she certainly lives life to the full here at Cumberland!”
