Get creative with Godalming care homes this Care Home Open Day

Two care homes in Godalming are inviting local people to join in their family-friendly celebrations for Care Home Open Day.

Get creative with Godalming care homes this Care Home Open Day

On Friday 28th June, Broadwater Lodge, on Summers Road will be open from 11am - 3pm, and Jubilee House, on Pound Lane, will be open from 10.30am - 3.30pm. The events celebrate Care Home Open Day, a countrywide initiative to create lasting relationships between care homes and their local communities.

This year’s theme celebrates the role of arts within care, which is important in encouraging residents’ self-expression, and helps to create meaningful experiences.

Both homes have organised an art-themed party to celebrate the open day, with entertainment, activities and creative fun.

At Broadwater Lodge visitors can look forward to petting the resident animals at the homes farm, Codgers Farm, painting pictures of the animals and also enjoying pony rides on resident miniature pony, Cookie.

At Jubilee House visitors can look forward to an art exhibition of resident’s work, live music, and a garden party.

Angela Bookham, home manager at Broadwater Lodge, said: “Everyone at Broadwater Lodge is so excited to welcome the local community in for Care Home Open Day 2019. The people of Godalming have always been so welcoming to us, it’s great to be able to give something back.

“This year’s theme of ‘Celebrating Arts in Care’ is a wonderful opportunity for us to showcase all the brilliant activities we get up to on a daily basis here at Broadwater Lodge, such as tending to our fam, and we hope that lots of local people will join us on Friday 28th June.”

Totka Zhelyazkova, home manager at Jubilee House, said: “Creative activities are such an important part of life for people in care, whether it’s painting to help enhance hand-eye coordination, or just reminiscing by putting on some music – the arts are a vital part of life here at Jubilee House.

“We’re so excited to be hosting our Care Home Open Day event this June. We had a brilliant time when we did this last year so it made sense for us to open our doors to the local people of Godalming again and show them just how much fun you can have in a care home.”
