On Friday 28th June, the team at Silversprings will be opening the doors to the care home for a free family-friendly event from 10.30am - 3.30pm, while Tall Trees will be welcoming guests from 12 noon to 5pm. The events celebrate Care Home Open Day, a countrywide initiative to create lasting relationships between care homes and their local communities.
This year’s theme celebrates the role of arts within care, which is important in encouraging residents’ self-expression, and helps to create meaningful experiences.
Silversprings has organised an art-themed party to celebrate the open day, with entertainment, activities and creative fun. Visitors can look forward to photography sessions, live entertainment, and arts and crafts activities with local students.
Tall Trees is throwing a Hawaiian-themed party, where visitors can enjoy fun games in the garden, live entertainment from Gwyn Pritchard, who will perform classic hits from the 50s, 60s, and 70s, and arts and crafts activities with children from Rainbow preschool.
Donna Cousins, home manager at Silversprings, said: “Creative activities are such an important part of life for people in care, whether it’s painting to help enhance hand-eye coordination, or just reminiscing by putting on some music – the arts are a vital part of life here at Silversprings.”
Alice Banda, home manager at Tall Trees, added: “We’re so excited to be hosting our Care Home Open Day event this June. We had a brilliant time when we did this last year so it made sense for us to open our doors to the local people of Colchester again and show them just how much fun you can have in a care home.”
As part of a nationwide competition across Care UK homes, Silversprings and Tall Trees will be developing a work of art in the lead up to the open day, which will be showcased at the events.
