‘Round of a-paws’ for Milner House's newest team member

Milner House has officially welcomed a pawsome team member – and she’s set to be a hit with residents and colleagues alike.

‘Round of a-paws’ for Milner House's newest team member

The home has enlisted the help of home manager Joe Patterson’s dog, Red, to be the home’s new canine relations manager. As part of her role, the eight-month-old cocker spaniel will be on hand for residents to fuss, walk, or simply spend time with.

Red has been part of the Milner House family since she was just eight weeks old, so has already spent a lot of time getting to know the residents and team members.

Visiting the residents five times a week, Red brings a lot of positive energy every time she steps into the home. Despite her young age and energetic nature, she’s an affectionate pup and the perfect candidate for the job.

Red already spends some of her time patrolling the home to ensure everything is in order, and keeps residents entertained, proving that she’s settling in her new role perfectly. Her appointment is already having a very positive effect on residents and their wellbeing, especially those living with dementia.

Home manager at Milner House, Joe Patterson, said: “When I announced that we would be taking on a canine relations manager, I’m sure people thought I was barking mad, but Red has been such a wonderful addition to the Milner House family ever since she was a puppy that we thought it was about time she officially became one of the team.

“We know just how beneficial animal therapy can be for older people – especially for those living with dementia. Being close to animals can help lift a person’s mood, stimulate social interaction and ease agitation – and Red is brilliant at doing just that!”
