The Care Home Awards recognise and reward excellence and innovation for UK care home management, operation and delivery.
Sherwood Grange is a finalist in the Best for Sporting, Social or Leisure Activities category at the Care Home Awards, thanks to the impressive range of activities on offer to residents at the home which incorporate trips that utilise both local places of interest, the museums Central London has to offer and trips to the surrounding area including Portsmouth, Poole and the coast.
The Lifestyle team work tirelessly to develop, amongst other activities, Thames river boat cruises, a Bonfire Night cruise to watch firework displays, trips to Brick Lane Music Hall shows, theatre, pantomime and cultural events such as Chinese Extravaganza performances and Indian Bollywood performances, plus talks from local people linked to residents’ interests and visits to the Imperial War Museum and RAF Hendon. They even took a gentleman’s group for a Boys & Toys visit to the Excel exhibition centre to see the amazing Motorcycle Show. The Lifestyle team motto is “if you would like to do it, we can arrange it” and work consistently to listen to and access residents previous interests and hobbies in order to tailor trips to encompass these particular themes.
One extremely successful initiative, piloted by Sherwood Grange in 2018, was a home swap with another Care UK home in Dorset, to allow residents to enjoy a holiday away from home.
Sherwood Grange also won Care UK’s RCS Meaningful Lifestyle Award in December 2018. The judges said: “The lifestyle team is a huge asset to Sherwood Grange. Family members believe the team has added years to their loved ones’ lives and helped them to discover a whole new lease of life.”
Rick Mayne, home manager at Sherwood Grange, said: “We are thrilled to have been nominated in the Best for Sporting, Social or Leisure Activities category at this year’s Care Home Awards.
“At Sherwood Grange, we place great emphasis on individuals to ensure that everything they do or experience is meaningful and life-enhancing for them. Our activity-based approach to care means that residents are welcome to help around the home, and our extensive range of activities and regular outings aim to offer something for everyone.
“Our mission is that any visitor should come in and feel that they themselves could live in Sherwood Grange. The team fully embrace this belief. As I always say ‘happy team, happy home!’”
