Pupils from Willesborough Junior School took part in a competition to name the three suites at Care UK’s new home, Montfort Manor.
The children put their heads together to come up with a list of names that have cultural or historical significance to them and the local area, and these were then whittled down to the top three by the Care UK team.
When Montfort Manor opens, the suites, which were named after famous places and people, will be known as: ‘Willesborough Suite’, named after a suburb of Ashford, ‘John Wallis Suite’, named after the famous clergyman and mathematician, and ‘Victoria Park Suite’, named after the country park in Ashford.
Care UK presented the winning children with book vouchers to say thank you for all their hard work.
Cheryl Shorter, who is the new home manager of Montfort Manor, said: “Ahead of welcoming the first residents to the home this September, the all-important naming of the suites within the care home is a priority, and we thought this presented an excellent opportunity to work with Willesborough Junior School, to get to know our neighbours a little better.
“The ideas the pupils put forward were all of a very high quality, and we’re really pleased with the final three names.”
Emma Tonkin, Darwin Class Teacher at Willesborough Junior School, said: “We were thrilled when Care UK asked to work with us on this exciting new venture here in Ashford. The children had a great time researching the local area to help them come up with three suite names.”
