Queens Court wins approval of national care inspectors

Home news

A national care watchdog has given Queen's Court the seal of approval, with relatives and residents praising its caring and attentive team members.

The Care Quality Commission’s (CQC) report gave Queen’s Court an overall ‘good’ rating, following an unannounced inspection.

The home received ‘good’ ratings in all five categories, including safety, effectiveness, level of care, responsiveness and having a well-led service.

The inspectors commended the tailored, person-centred approach to care offered by Queen’s Court to the residents. On top of offering personalised care plans, team members also adapted methods to the residents and their needs. A resident said: “They walk with me because they know I don’t feel safe on my own”. In addition, team members support residents to complete a “Life Story” book, in order to initiate conversations and reassure those living with dementia or memory difficulties.

The report also noted that people’s preferences were also taken into account, such as the team supporting a resident to ensure they could visit a friend living on the upstairs floor as often as possible. Residents’ religious faith was also an important part of the care plans, but also of the activity schedule. For example, the home organised a Diwali party, as well as holding regular Mass and arranging various Christmas activities in December.

The range of activities on offer was praised by the inspectors. The report highlighted the positive feedback received for the Queen’s Court activity coordinator, as well as the home’s general involvement within the wider community. For example, three schools regularly visit the home for intergenerational activities with the residents. One resident said: “I like it when the school children come in and we read to each other”. Other activities include pampering sessions; one relative said: “[My family member] is as happy as they can be here. Gets their hair done, nails done, pampering and shoulder and head massage”.

Inspectors also commended the warm and kind interactions between the team and residents, with the team members described as kind and compassionate. One resident said: “The staff are wonderful, they really are. They’re so kind”. The report highlighted the empathy demonstrated by the team as well, who knew how to comfort and respond to residents’ by sitting down and offering a listening ear.

Commenting on the ‘good’ rating, Anthony Browne said: “Creating a welcoming home-from-home feel, and making sure every resident receives the best possible care is our absolute priority. Everyone here at Queen’s Court works incredibly hard to provide residents with compassionate, person-centred care and I’m delighted that our efforts have been recognised by the CQC’s inspectors.

“I’m extremely proud of the team and I would like to say thank you for their hard work and dedication, which I know is also greatly appreciated by residents and their families.”

Councillor Carroll, lead member for adult social care and public health said: “We are delighted that Queen’s Court has received a ‘Good’ rating from the CQC. This rating highlights the hard work put in by the team to ensure they provide safe, caring and high-quality care to our residents.”
