Mildenhall Lodge encourages people to come together for dementia

Back by popular demand, Mildenhall Lodge is inviting the local community to a free event aimed at those living with dementia, or caring for someone who is.

On Wednesday 21st November, from 10am - 12 noon, the team at the home will be hosting a Sue Ryder, Dementia Together session.

Dementia navigator at Sue Ryder Dementia Together, Lisa Frain, will provide practical advice on what dementia is and how memories are lost, as well as useful tips on how to overcome communication barriers.

The informative session is designed to empower people affected by dementia to make their own choices, feel in control of their lives, and live well with dementia. It also provides an opportunity for local people to share stories and experiences with others in a similar situation to them.

In addition, Dan Pennock from Suffolk Healthwatch, will be providing attendees with the opportunity to voice their thoughts on the quality of health and social care services available in the county. Dan will also be on hand with information about statutory and voluntary services in the Suffolk area.

After the event there will be the opportunity to meet the friendly team at Mildenhall Lodge, ask them questions, and take a closer look at the care home.

Katy Hughes, home manager at Mildenhall Lodge said: “We know that looking after someone living with dementia can be challenging. It’s natural to feel confused about how to behave, and our event aims to offer professional knowledge and insight for those who need it – as well as provide a hub for sharing experiences.

“We want people to know they’re not alone, and we’re here to offer support. We’re delighted to be working with Lisa and the team at Sue Ryder on this event and look forward to welcoming local people to the home for an inspiring morning of information and guidance.”
