The team at Whitebourne organised the trip to Windsor Castle when resident Hazel Morrow asked to visit a grand home.
Hazel’s husband, a former member of the Brigade of Guards, had once worked at Windsor Castle and the trip brought back fond memories of visits to various royal homes while visiting her husband.
The care home worked hard to make her dream become a reality so residents could admire the grandeur of the oldest inhabited castle in the world, and enjoy a spot of sightseeing in the sun.
Residents went on a tour of the castle, viewing the impressive décor in the State Apartments, the Waterloo Chamber, and Queen Mary’s doll house, which was enjoyed by all. They also got the chance to wander the castle grounds and enjoy the spectacular views of the Windsor countryside.
Derek Purchese, home managerat Whitebourne, said: “Residents are at the heart of everything we do here at Whitebourne, and we always like to go the extra mile to grant their wishes. I am really pleased that we were able to make this wish a reality for the residents, especially Hazel.
“Everybody had a wonderful day, and you could see from their reactions just how amazed and fascinated they were by the chance to see inside the castle. We’ll definitely be back again to share this fantastic experience with more of the residents.”
Hazel added: “It was a fantastic trip and I am delighted to have spent the day at such an interesting landmark. It was such a brilliant surprise - I remember being invited to grand places with my husband and I had wished to visit a ‘royal home’ once again. I cannot thank the team enough for giving me the opportunity see the castle up close and make some great memories with friends.”
