A care home in Frimley has been awarded a prestigious accreditation for person-centred dementia care – Care Fit for VIPS.
The internal accreditation has been awarded to Care UK’s Whitebourne, on Burleigh Road, and recognises the team’s work alongside residents and families to improve the lives of those living with dementia.
Developed in 2004, the Care Fit for VIPS framework was introduced by dementia experts and is centered around four key aspects: valuing those living with dementia, treating everyone as an individual, showing empathy towards those living with the condition, and recognising the need for a stimulating social environment.
Whitebourne achieved the accreditation by offering an extremely high level of care for those living with dementia, achieving an impressive score of over 92% across all elements of care.
Suzanne Mumford, Head of Nursing, Care and Dementia at Care UK and a key advocate for the Care Fit for VIPS accreditation, commended Whitebourne for its person-centered care, finding examples in residents’ tailored care plans and compassionate interactions between team members and residents.
During the assessment, judges praised the home’s team members for the comprehensive and individualised care plans put in place for each resident. Each plan reflects each residents’ needs, ensuring everyone in the home, from the catering team to the carers, provide tailored support that enhances the resident’s self-worth, preferences, and overall wellbeing. This is furthered by the framed notices on residents' rooms which provide information on their preferences for engagement.
The home was also praised for offering a wide range of events and activities to help residents to live fulfilling lives. Judges noted how the home had delivered over 600 activities in the previous 30 days prior to the inspection, which included local outings to museums and places of interest, day trips further afield and indoor activities, including crafts and music-led plans, that were all reflective of resident’s preferences.
Judges also recognised the family ethos that team members work hard to create and their commitment to nurturing a supportive environment where different beliefs and preferences are respected.
Namaste care, a holistic approach to dementia care, was another aspect the report highlighted. The home frequently delivers care sessions both in group settings and one-on-one, ensuring that residents receive compassionate and individualised attention.
Nealsen Veersawmy, Home Manager at Whitebourne, said: “We are thrilled that our hard work and passion for care has been recognised with this accolade. This rating is a testament to our team’s dedication and desire to go above and beyond for residents each and every day. We are committed to maintaining these high standards and continuing to provide exceptional care for the residents.
“I’d like to say a big thank you to the whole team for their efforts as well as the residents and relatives that make Whitebourne a wonderful place to live. We look forward to continuing to deliver high-quality care across the board.”
