Sidcup school children get crafty for new care home

Local school children have created eye-catching artwork to decorate the hoardings of Sidcup’s newest care home.

The multi-million pound purpose-built care home, which will provide full time residential, nursing and specialist dementia care for up to 80 older people in Sidcup, is due to open in early 2019.

Students from Longlands Primary School and Orchard Primary School were invited by Care UK and construction partners, Castleoak, to get creative with a piece of artwork around the themes of ‘who do you care about?’ and ‘construction and site safety.’

The artwork is now on display on the hoardings surrounding Care UK’s new care home on Frognal Avenue, as the care home begins to take shape.

The pupils who designed the artwork visited the site to see their drawings up on display and were taken on a special site tour.

Gary Renton, construction project manager for Care UK, said: “We were delighted to be able to collaborate with Longlands Primary School and Orchard Primary School on this brilliant art project to brighten up our hoardings.

“It was great to welcome the children to see their pictures proudly displayed, and we look forward to working with the school on future projects.”

Paul Evans, contract manager at Castleoak, added: “Castleoak is committed to engaging with local communities, so we were more than happy to invite pupils to creatively decorate our hoarding. They’ve done a fantastic job and we’re really pleased with the site’s new look.”

Sam Johnson, Year 4 Class Teacher at Orchard Primary School, added: “We were thrilled to be asked to be part of the exciting new venture here in Sidcup. The children had a great time creating the artwork and sharing the special people they care about. They love seeing their work displayed for the community to see.”
