Nine Care UK care homes are shortlisted for national awards

Company news

Up and down the country, residents and team members in nine Care UK homes will be waiting nervously in a few days’ time to see if their home triumphs in a national award scheme open to every care home in the country.

Nine Care UK homes have been shortlisted in the Care Home Management awards ceremony, which will take place on Wednesday 27th June, in London. The annual awards aim to recognise and reward outstanding levels of care home management and delivery of care in care homes across the UK.   There are 17 different categories in the awards and Care UK homes share an astonishing 14 different nominations with several homes nominated in more than one of the categories.

Care UK homes have been acknowledged in the awards for a multitude of reasons, from having beautiful landscaped gardens for residents to enjoy, to providing impeccable specialist care for residents with complex needs. There’s also a nomination for a

nationwide project from last year - the ‘We’ll Meet Again’ campaign, which celebrated Dame Vera Lynn’s 100th birthday with a nationwide sing-along.  This was one of a number of entertaining campaigns run by Care UK  which involve residents in entertaining events which link to their own personal interests.

Care UK homes have been recognised in the awards for various categories including providing residents with outstanding facilities, their sporting, and leisure activities, special outdoor spaces, communicating with relatives and friends and exemplary standards of care.

Among the nominated homes is Britten Court in Lowestoft, Suffolk which  has been shortlisted in the best  garden or outdoor spaces category. Here, the team has created a memory path, a unique centrepiece which is made out of stones that have been decorated by residents and guests. The path winds through the garden, and will eventually lead to the heritage listed oak tree.

Hollins Park in Macclesfield has been shortlisted in the Best Nursing Care category. The accolade highlights the home’s reputation for delivery specialist nursing care, and for providing support to residents with complex needs including dementia, Parkinson’s and schizophrenia.

Care homes have also been praised for their culinary excellence. The team at The Terrace, in Maison Dieu, has been shortlisted in the Best for Nutrition, Food and Dining category. The team members have been recognised for their commitment to creating a genuine family atmosphere at mealtimes. The home’s highly-qualified head chef, Caroline, always goes the extra mile to ensure residents see their favourite dishes on the menu.

The team at Sandfields in Gloucestershire has been shortlisted in the Best Maintenance Team category, thanks to Dave Capewell, who takes care of all things maintenance at the home. Dave not only takes time to socialise with the residents but also supports them to help out with gardening and other handy work around the home.

The presentation of the Awards to the Winners will take place on 27th June at Excel London during the Health + Care Show.
