During the royal wedding weekend, a number of Care UK care homes opened their doors to local communities, decorated homes with reams of union jack bunting and provided residents with British flags and hats to help get everyone into the patriotic spirit.
St. Vincent’s House in Hammersmith went above and beyond to mark the occasion, with the royal nuptials inspiring residents, Luigi and Maria Carmine, to renew their own wedding vows. The care team hosted a wedding celebration in the home’s tea shop where fellow residents and friends gathered to honour the happily married couple who first wed in 1982.
The national event provided the opportunity for Care UK residents around the country to remember their own wedding days. Residents at Colne View care home in Halstead reminisced with visitors by sharing photos and stories of their special days.
Many homes celebrated the occasion with a live screening of the wedding and enjoyed delicious food, including royal themed buffets and afternoon teas. Knebworth care home in Woolmer Green, and Bowes House in Hailsham, even created their own stunning replicas of Harry and Meghan’s wedding cake.
A selection of live entertainment featured at Care UK’s royal-themed parties. Worcestershire singer, Tony Minchella, sang for residents and guests at Perry Manor, and at Highmarket House in Banbury, local comedy ventriloquist Paul Dumas put on an exciting performance for party-goers.
Residents and guests from around the country came together to raise a glass to the royal couple with Skylark House in Horsham hosting a traditional street party in honour of the occasion. Bowes House provided fun entertainment for visitors and residents, organising a royal family quiz and raffle – as well as a sweepstake, where partakers were encouraged guess the colour of the Queen’s outfit. Care UK’s Lauder Lodge also joined in with the fun and games with their own quiz which took place at their ‘top hats and tiaras’ themed royal garden party.
Highmarket House invited some special guests for the occasion and were joined by youngsters from Bicester Children’s Home to enjoy Harry and Meghan’s big day. Colne View care home made it a day to remember when children from Halstead Pre-School visited residents for crown making and a delightful performance from the WI Warblers, who sang traditional wedding songs to celebrate the event. Knebworth care home also hosted exciting entertainment for guests with a photo booth and props, including silhouettes of the royal couple, adding some extra fun to the celebration.
