Work starts on new multi-million pound Hampshire care home

Work has begun on a new £5.5 million care home which will provide quality care for older people in Hythe, near Southampton.

Care UK and specialist construction partner, Lawrence Baker, have celebrated the start of work on the purpose-built home on Southampton Road. When complete, the purpose-built home will provide full time residential, nursing and specialist dementia care for up to 62 older people, and create over 100 jobs.

The three-storey home, which is expected to welcome its first residents in 2019, will include facilities such as a cinema, café and hairdressing salon. Secure and wheelchair friendly landscaped outdoor space will include sensory gardens, water features and seating to give residents the opportunity to spend quality time outdoors.

Justin Daley, construction project manager for Care UK, said: “We are delighted work has begun in Hythe. This impressive development reflects our commitment to improving the provision of residential care in the town.

“We take great pride in the quality, layout and design of each individual home, as these factors can greatly impact the everyday experiences of those living in a care environment. Our new home will live up to these standards, and will provide a quality home for older people from Hythe and beyond.”

Liam Shelton, contracts manager at Lawrence Baker, said: “Construction of this high-quality new care home has got off to a great start and we are on schedule to complete the scheme in June 2019. This is a high-profile project for Lawrence Baker, and we are proud to be playing a part in the delivery of this much-needed new care home for the Hythe community.”

Designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence, the new home will incorporate space for hobby and leisure activities. The layout of the building will be configured into a series of individual suites, each having a dedicated lounge/dining area to help facilitate the creation of close knit communities.
