The visit was arranged after May Sheridan and Mary Cooper, residents at Care UK’s Whitby Dene care home on Whitby Road, submitted their wish to meet the Cardinal through the home’s ‘wishing tree’.
The residents were joined by the Cardinal of England, Vincent Nichols, for tea and cake where they spent time chatting. During his time at the home, the Cardinal also gave a number of blessings, and led prayers with the residents and team members.
Whitby Dene home manager, Saad Baig, said: “It was an honour to welcome the Cardinal of England to Whitby Dene for what was an inspiring afternoon. For many of the residents here at Whitby Dene, religion is an important part of their daily lives, so it was fantastic to be able to arrange the special visit.
“We always plan our activities and special visitors around the residents’ interests, and our new ‘wishing tree’ is helping us to achieve just that. We were thrilled to be able to facilitate May and Mary’s wish to meet the Cardinal, and it was a memorable day for everyone at the home.”
