To top off a fun-filled summer, residents at Whitby Dene were treated to a special boat trip on the Grand Union Canal.
Residents and team members at Whitby Dene departed from Harefeild as they set off on their adventure. As well as taking in the beautiful wildlife, residents also spotted a number of landmarks along the way, such as the old coal factory, a well-known building full of history.
The residents also observed the worn out concrete marks left by the shire horses which used to pull the narrow boats in the 18th century, and took in the scenery which has been used as a backdrop for films such as Black Beauty and James Bond.
Saad Baig, home manager at Whitby Dene, said: “Here at Whitby Dene, we are always looking for exciting events and activities that residents can take part in within the local community as part of our Activity Based Care approach. We have a few keen sailors here at the home, so the trip has been excitedly discussed among the residents for quite some time.
“The residents had a wonderful day on the canal boat, and enjoyed taking in the scenery and feeding the birds. Many residents will have grown up in the local area, or have spent a lot of time here, so revisiting some of the well-known landmarks proved to be a great reminiscence activity.”
