The team at the home on St John’s Close organised the walk to raise funds for the UK's leading charity dedicated to conquering stroke, the Stroke Association.
Jean Fincham, a resident of three years at the care home, also joined the team for the charity walk. Jean is heavily involved in activities within the home and was recently named ‘resident ambassador’ by the team.
The team decided to raise money for the charity after Mildenhall Lodge team member, Kym Denny suffered a stroke in 2016. Kym was supported in her recovery by the Stroke Association and encouraged to attend a stroke support group based in Bury St Edmunds which helped her on the road to recovery.
Kym has set up her own support group at the care home, following her own experience. She hosts informal sessions that give residents the opportunity to share thoughts and support each other.
Katy Hughes, home manager at Mildenhall Lodge, said: “The Stroke Association is a charity close to the hearts of many here at Mildenhall Lodge, so we were keen to support Kym and take part in a walk to raise much-needed funds for the charity.
“We had a really enjoyable afternoon taking in the sights of Mildenhall, all for an important cause! The team and residents really pulled together to raise £1,367 for the charity, and we hope that the money raised will help to fund research which will benefit those who have suffered from a stroke.”
