Residents at the home on St John’s Close were joined by members of RAF Mildenhall, Bingo Buddies, and the Anglo and American Bikers as part of a community garden project.
The renovated garden boasts a new patio area with a stone circle and water feature, as well as a wishing well and cart wheels on the newly painted fencing. There has also been planting added to much of the garden.
Youngsters from the National Citizen Service in Suffolk donated plants and shaped the raised planters. Roy Dunbavin, D.A.B Group and Tiernan Boland also supplied concrete and sand to build the new patio area.
To finish the community garden project, almost 100 bikers from the Anglo and American Bikers visited the home to lay the final slap in the garden.
Marina Dunbavin, lifestyle coordinator at Mildenhall Lodge, was instrumental in the project’s success. She is an active member of the community and has run a local bingo club for the last year. As a thank you to Marina, members of the club wanted to give back to her and support the home’s garden project.
Katy Hughes, home manager at Mildenhall Lodge, said: “We’re so grateful to everyone who helped build this garden, it was a real community project with everyone chipping in to create a beautiful environment for everyone to enjoy.
“The outdoors has many therapeutic benefits for older people, not least because it’s give them the opportunity to get back to nature, but it can also improve mood, concentration and relieve stress. We hope it will bring much joy to the residents and visitors over the coming years.”
