Patricia Jenkins from Bromsgrove took part in a competition to name the new Care UK home which is due to open in her town early next year. The competition called for the people who know the town best, its residents, to share suggestions which had cultural or historical reference to the town.
Patricia came up with Chandler Court, explaining that the surname Chandler originated from candle makers in Bromsgrove.
Care UK regional director, Daniel Turner-Naylor, said: “The home naming process is one of the key milestones for the new home, so it was important to involve the community in the decision. All of the names put forward were of a very high quality, but we felt ‘Chandler Court’ was really original and rooted the home in the local area. We’re so grateful to everyone that made a name suggestion and Patricia for coming up with the winning name.”
Patricia Jenkins said: “I was born and raised in Bromsgrove so when the opportunity arose to be a part of the town’s history, I leapt at the chance. I am delighted Chandler Court has been selected and I think it’s a lovely way of preserving the heritage of Bromsgrove and celebrating the history of the town - and the people who live here. I hope the new name conjures fond memories for people in the town as it did for me.”
The new four-storey care home, which will feature 81 en-suite bedrooms, has been designed to enable its residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence. The care home will incorporate space for hobby and leisure activities and will include its own cinema, hairdressing salon and café.
