TV national treasure helps celebrate launch of luxury Kent care home

Fresh from celebrating seven decades in television and entertainment, Gloria Hunniford OBE was guest of honour at an event to mark the opening of a new care home in Kent.

Gloria Hunniford cut the ribbon to officially launch Weald Heights in Sevenoaks, the 29th home Care UK has opened since 2013.

This is the first Care UK home to take the service and facilities to a whole new level with more luxurious fittings in the rooms, a customised fine dining service allowing residents to select from a menu of daily dishes which are cooked to order and a lifestyle team on hand to create even more personalised activities.

At the opening, Gloria Hunniford entertained guests with amusing anecdotes, jokes and she spoke about how impressed she was with the home and the team working there. As a local resident she also joked that she was planning to pop round regularly to make use of the cinema and popcorn machine found on the first floor of the home.

Guests at the opening event enjoyed a glass of sparkling wine and canapés followed by a luxurious afternoon tea accompanied by the sounds of harp music. For those looking for something a little more lively the duo, Swingtime Sweethearts, entertained the guests with familiar songs from the 1940s. The event was enjoyed by the residents who have just moved in, their family and friends, local people, media representatives and key players in the Sevenoaks community.

Weald Heights home manager, Maria Covington, said: “We were delighted to welcome Gloria Hunniford to officially open the home and mark this important milestone. Residents and their families are at the heart of everything we do, including the launch celebrations, and it was an enjoyable day for all. It was fantastic to welcome so many local people and special guests to Weald Heights. Our grand launch really was a day to remember.”

Weald Heights has been designed to provide residential, nursing and specialist dementia care, as well as respite, end of life and palliative care. Choice, variety and luxury are built into every aspect of life at the home, which offers a combination of professional, individualised care and luxury hotel-style comfort.
