Sherwood Grange was one of thousands of care homes across the UK to take part in the annual initiative aimed at challenging perceptions of care homes, connecting residents with people in their community, and developing relationships across the generations.
Residents and the team at Sherwood Grange were joined by local Deputy Mayor, Cllr Mike Head, for their very own Mad Hatter’s themed garden party. Team members at Sherwood Grange dressed up as their favourite characters from the Lewis Carroll classic – from the Mad Hatter, to Alice and the Cheshire Cat.
As we all enjoying a selection of refreshments, guests also had the opportunity to browse a number of stalls selling hand-made gifts and take part in the fun garden games.
In addition to celebrating Care Home Open Day, the day also coincided with the home’s first birthday. To celebrate the special occasion, the team at Sherwood Grange had arranged a special Mad Hatter’s cake, which was cut by the Deputy Mayor and oldest resident, Vera Francis aged 97.
Rick Mayne, home manager at Sherwood Grange, said: “Care Home Open Day is about connecting people and enriching the lives of residents through lasting relationships, so we were delighted to welcome so many members of the local community and special guest, Cllr Mike Head.
“Both the residents and guests loved the entertainment we had throughout the day, and everyone commented how much they enjoyed the celebration. It was a fantastic way to celebrate our first birthday here at Sherwood Grange and we look forward to welcoming the people of Kingston for future events.”
