Care UK teams set a new record for their fundraising for Children in Need

Care UK teams across the country have broken their own fundraising record for the most recent Children in Need campaign, with news that their efforts have been topped up with a £2,000 match-funding cheque from the charitable donation scheme the provider offers.

Chief Executive Mike Parish said: “It was an amazing effort from our teams across the country, with cakes being baked, raffle prizes donated and tickets sold in our treatment centres, primary care services and residential care homes from Plymouth to Stowmarket and from Portsmouth to Cheshire.

“I never cease to be amazed at how dedicated colleagues, who spend so much time providing first class care, can still find time to organise events and bake exceptional cakes that raise funds to make people’s lives better. I am delighted that Care UK continues to support their efforts through the Working with the Community fund.”

At care homes across Essex and Suffolk, residents joined in with the fundraising fun. At Cedrus House, in Stowmarket, £115 was raised through a cake sale. Keen cook and home manager Michelle Webster said: “The team and relatives worked hard baking cakes and local people joined us to have fun and raise money for this worthwhile cause.

“Knowing Care UK has a match-funding scheme is a real incentive for us to keep putting in the effort, as we know the rewards will be even greater for the charities we support,” Michelle continued.

At seven of the treatment centres, run on behalf of the NHS by Care UK, teams joined in the fundraising fun with bake sales, competitions and donations to wear fun costumes.

At Barlborough NHS Treatment Centre the team took on the gruelling plank challenge, which involves holding a push-up style stance for as long as possible. The centre’s coffee shop baked and decorated cakes and the team made donations to wear spotty or pink items of clothing. The centre was also visited by some very special guests from Tree Tops Nursery who came to meet Pudsey.

Hospital director Steve Booker said: “It was an inspirational day. From one of our physiotherapists holding the plank for more than six minutes to one of our housekeeping team creating hedgehogs out of recycled books everyone gave their all for this worthwhile cause.”

At the health and social care provider’s Colchester support office teams raised an incredible £1,100 with a raffle, cake bake and games. And at its Reading support office teams raised an amazing £940 with a raffle and chocolate sale.

In total, teams raised more than £5,250 for Children in Need.  As part of its programme of support for good causes, Care UK donated an additional £2,000 through its match-funding scheme.

Each year, through its Working with the Community match-funding scheme, Care UK backs colleagues raising money for a range of charities supporting people and programmes across Britain. Care UK employs more than 15,000 people and every employee is eligible to apply for match funding for their fundraising efforts, no matter how small.  In the current financial year, more than £22,000 has already been allocated to good causes through the scheme.
