From 2.30pm to 4.30pm, James Clear and Andrew Mussett from Care UK’s hospitality team, will share their knowledge and provide practical advice on healthy eating and hydration for older people. They will also give top tips for stimulating appetite, and discuss examples of how menus can be adapted to suit special dietary needs – for people living with dementia, for example.
Visitors will be able to try a host of delicious sample dishes, freshly prepared by James and Andrew. There will be tempting sandwiches and desserts prepared and served especially for those with swallowing difficulties, as well as homemade fortified drinks and delicious family favourites, such as fish pie, made with fresh herbs, lemon and cream.
After the free event, James and Andrew will be on hand for a question and answer session, and there will also be an opportunity for members of the public to meet the team at Silversprings and take a tour of the home.
Maggie Ziemianska, home manager at Silversprings, said: “We understand the importance of providing tasty, nutritious and well-balanced seasonal menus for older people. We pride ourselves on supporting individuals to dine with dignity, and we are passionate about catering for different dietary requirements – as well as helping residents to continue to enjoy their favourite dishes in a sociable environment.
“By supporting residents to eat and drink well, and helping them to overcome any challenges along the way that may prevent this, we can boost their health – even relieving aches and pains and increasing mental wellbeing.”
Care UK recently launched Eating as we age, a free guide, designed to help anyone who experiences problems with eating or drinking, as well as those caring for an older friend or relative. Eating as we age is easy-to-follow and pools the expertise of Care UK’s chefs and the experiences of its care professionals. Free copies of the guide will be available at the event.
