It replaces one which has seen more than 20,000 major operations.
The new equipment is lighter and can accommodate patients of a heavier weight than the old table. It’s easier for the theatre team to manoeuvre and the table can be moved horizontally on its platform to allow imaging technology such as C-arms to be used during an operation. This is convenient for surgeons and provides added safety for patients.
Fully-compatible with the hospital’s existing operating tables, the Maquet Meera can be used with existing accessories, such as shoulder supports and side rails, with no additional customisation.
Janet Hamnett, theatre manager at Peninsula NHS Treatment Centre, said: “We’re very excited to be the first operating team in the UK to use the new Maquet Meera table. We trialled other equipment but this was the one that we found fully-met our surgical needs. Of course, patients are always under sedation on an operating table so will not experience the operational benefits of the table themselves, but they’ll benefit from the added versatility it gives to us as a surgical team.”
Peninsula NHS Treatment Centre offers a range of treatments to NHS patients, including orthopaedic procedures, hernia and gall bladder removal and cataract surgery. If their GP or optician decides that they need treatment, NHS patients can choose Peninsula NHS Treatment Centre where waiting times are shorter than elsewhere and where clinical results and patient satisfaction are excellent.
We are happy to arrange interviews with a range of experts, commentary on industry issues and site visits for filming, photography or sound recording. Please get in touch with your requirements and we will do our best to arrange a suitable response.
