New Dickens suite at Cheltenham care home meets Great Expectations

The team at Sandfields care home, on St George’s Road in Cheltenham, is inviting local people to join in its celebrations for the official opening of a new suite at the home.

Members of the public are invited to drop in to the care home on Thursday 4th August from 2pm to 3.30pm, to take a first look at the new suite at Sandfields. The home will be hosting a Charles Dickens themed open day to celebrate the official opening of the new Dickens suite, which will help meet demand for high quality residential care in the local area.

During the day there will be an official ribbon cutting ceremony, followed by entertainment from Robert Burgess and Swithin Fry, who will be performing ‘An hour with Oliver and friends...’ including songs and readings from the musical ‘Oliver!’.

Those who join the festivities can enjoy complimentary refreshments and will have the chance to meet the team at Sandfields. Visitors can also take a tour of the home, to see for themselves the range of amenities and activities available for residents.

Deanna Lane, home manager at Sandfields, said: “It is a very exciting time for Sandfields.  We have built a warm, welcoming community here, and we are thrilled to be able to announce the expansion of our existing services as we also celebrate two successful years.

“We are very proud of the new residential suite. It is the first of two individual suites on a dedicated residential floor which will eventually provide round-the-clock support for up to 30 residents.  This latest addition to Sandfields increases the facility for residential care and with our existing nursing suite means we can meet the changing needs of residents at the home.

“We cannot wait to welcome residents to the new suite and we are all looking forward to inviting local people to join us as we commemorate its opening.”

The new residential suite at Sandfields is headed up by Malaika Brown, an experienced nurse who has worked in the nursing and care industry for over 20 years. In her role as deputy manager, she will oversee all aspects of clinical care at Sandfields, including the recruitment, training and management of a first class team.

Malaika said: “Sandfields has a fantastic reputation in the local community, even though it has only been open for two years.  It is a privilege to be able to play a part in building on this, and to be in a position to ensure all residents receive the very best standards of personalised care.

“It is important to me that the nursing team at Sandfields is not just knowledgeable and experienced, but is also caring and compassionate.  By taking the time to get to know residents and their families, we will be able ensure the care provided has a positive impact on their lives.”
