Larkland House care home saddles-up for visit from miniature ponies

Residents at Larkland House care home on London Road in Ascot had a special visit from some miniature ponies when KL Pony Therapy visited the care home.

The friendly ponies created a stir when they trotted into the care home. Everyone had the opportunity to stroke and pet the animals in the session which coincided with the Royal Windsor Horse Show. The residents enjoyed an informative talk about the ponies, including how to look after them, where they compete and when they are shown.

The ponies were also taken on a tour of the care home, visiting residents’ rooms to ensure everyone had the opportunity to meet and interact with the animals.

Danielle Plant, customer relations manager at Larkland House, said: “It was wonderful to see the smiles on everyone’s faces when the miniature ponies arrived at Larkland House. They created rather a lot of excitement among the residents and Care UK team.

“One of our newest residents, Malcolm Henderson, was particularly thrilled to meet the ponies. He has always been passionate about horses and he owns paddocks in the local area.

“Petting animals and being in their company has proven therapeutic benefits, particularly for those living with dementia, and you could see from the residents’ reactions just how engaged they were when given the opportunity to get so close to such lovely, affectionate animals.”

Situated on London Road, Larkland House has been designed to deliver the very best standards of care and to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives. The home provides full time residential, nursing and specialist dementia care, as well as short term respite and day care.
