At 1pm, the Mayor of Macclesfield, Cllr Alift Harewood-Jones, will be performing the all-important ribbon cutting to officially open the new area of the garden at Hollins Park, which includes three summer houses converted into a pub, café and shop.
The new amenities have been introduced following a donation from the late Doris Marsden, a relative of a former resident Alan Marsden. The area forms part of the home’s focus on supporting residents to lead independent, fulfilled lives, and it is hoped residents will play a part in running the three outlets in the future.
The celebrations at Hollins Park coincide with Care Home Open Day – a countrywide initiative to create lasting relationships between care homes and their local communities. The doors to the care home will therefore be open throughout the afternoon for a free family-friendly event, complete with live entertainment to help get everyone in the party spirit and a barbeque.
Julie Okhae, home manager at Hollins Park, said: “We are all looking forward to an exciting day of celebrations at Hollins Park on Friday 17th June, and to officially opening a wonderful new area of the home.
“We are also thrilled to be playing a part in Care Home Open Day – an event which is all about connecting people and enriching the lives of residents through building lasting relationships with the local community across the generations.
“Opening our doors also gives us a great opportunity to show what life is really like in a modern care home; and we hope to change any preconceptions people might have while also showing everything Hollins Park has to offer.”
Visitors to the Care Home Open Day event at Hollins Park will also be able to pick up their copy of Care UK’s Eating as we Age. The latest in a series of free guides for family carers, Eating as we age is packed with hints and tips for keeping healthy and hydrated in older age. The guide can also be downloaded free at www.careuk.com/eat
