Eye care home celebrates Care Home Open Day

In celebration of Care Home Open Day on 17th June, Hartismere Place care home welcomed the local community for a fun dog show and 1950s themed party.

The day began with some tough judging of the fluffiest, scruffiest, friendliest, cutest and best groomed dogs in Eye, with prizes and rosettes awarded to the winners. Hartismere Place colleagues, relatives and visitors all brought their dogs along for the special occasion.

The dog show was followed by live 1950s-style entertainment from local singer Ian Harvey, a barbecue lunch prepared by the home’s chef, and various stalls and games. Hartismere Place was one of thousands of care homes to take part in Care Home Open Day this year with the aim of challenging perceptions of care homes, connecting residents with even more people in their community, and developing relationships across the generations.

Cathryn Weed, home manager at Hartismere Place, said: “It was a wonderful day and we were delighted to see so many local people. Residents had a brilliant day and it was great to strengthen our relationships with the wider community.”

Visitors to the Care Home Open Day event at Hartismere Place were also able to pick up their free copies of Care UK’s advice guides, including ‘Listen, talk, connect’, ‘As Easy as ABC’, ‘Good to Go’ and the new ‘Eating as we age’ guide which provides practical tips and recipe ideas for eating well in older age. For those who didn’t pick up a copy on the day, the free guides can be downloaded online at careuk.com/support-for-carers.
