An area of the garden at the care home on Victoria Road has been transformed with the addition of three summer houses which have each been converted into a pub, café and shop.
The new amenities have been introduced following a donation from the late Doris Marsden, a relative of a former resident Alan Marsden. Doris’s nephew, Stewart Lee, and his wife, Julie Lee, were at the home to commemorate the unveiling of the outlets.
The celebrations at Hollins Park coincided with Care Home Open Day – a countrywide initiative to create lasting relationships between care homes and their local communities. The doors to the care home were open throughout the afternoon for a free family-friendly event, and visitors enjoyed a barbecue and live entertainment, while they took their first look at the residents’ village.
Julie Okhae, home manager at Hollins Park, said: “We are very grateful to our benefactor for such a generous donation to the care home. We were delighted to use the funds to create a new outdoor area which will play an important part in supporting residents at Hollins Park to lead independent, fulfilled lives; and it is hoped many will play an active role in running the outlets sometime in the future.
“We are always looking at ways of improving the quality of life for residents at Hollins Park and these wonderful facilities will enhance the day-to-day experiences of all who live here. We were so pleased to welcome so many local people to our celebrations and to make so many new friends – across the generations - through Care Home Open Day.”
