The garden at Hartismere Place will be one of 30 to open over the weekend, from 12.30pm to 6pm, with proceeds going to the Eye Church Development Appeal.
Residents and colleagues at Hartismere Place and members at the adjacent Hartismere Club, which provides flexible day care, have been busy planting vegetables, shrubs and colourful sunflowers in preparation for the Open Gardens event. Earlier this year, the garden was transformed into a bird-friendly habitat with residents and Club members decorating and putting up bird boxes, planting bird-friendly flowers and making their own bird fat ball feeders.
Cathryn Weed, home manager at Hartismere Place, said: “Keeping active in the garden and spending time outdoors holds many benefits for older people, particularly those living with dementia. Over the past few months, residents and Club members have really enjoyed planting, weeding and tidying the gardens ready for the open weekend. We’re very pleased to be a part of the Eye Open Gardens this year and we’re looking forward to welcoming members of the community.”
As well as taking a look around the gardens at Hartismere Place, there will also be free refreshments available in the coffee shop area and opportunities to meet with the Care UK team. Copies of Care UK’s free advice guides will also be available, including Good to Go which is full of tips and encouragement to help family carers spend more time outdoors with a loved one living with dementia.
Tickets for the Eye Open Gardens on Saturday 11th June and Sunday 12th June are £4 per adult for both days, and can be purchased on either day at the Town Hall. Accompanied children aged 16 and under are free. For more information, contact the event organiser Christine Bird on 01379 871211.
