A group of residents, members at the adjacent Hartismere Club day centre, and Care UK colleagues all joined together to bake and decorate the special Christmas cake for a national Care UK competition. The traditional cake, which was baked using a recipe supplied by a day club member’s family, was hand-decorated with intricate icing snowflakes and snowman inspired by Disney’s ‘Frozen’ film.
Out of 21 Care UK care homes and day clubs which took part across the country, the Hartismere Place team were shortlisted as one of two runners-up in the national competition.
As well as Christmas baking, residents at Hartismere Place have enjoyed Christmas carol singing with the younger generations in Eye. The First Eye Beavers and children from Mulberry Bush Nursery both sang Christmas songs and favourite carols in the home earlier this month.
Since the home opened in October 2015, Hartismere Place home manager Cathryn Weed and the team have been making sure residents enjoy a special first Christmas in their new home.
Cathryn said: “We have all been enjoying the festive activities at Hartismere Place, working together to bake and decorate an excellent Christmas cake for Care UK’s competition, and welcoming younger members of the local community in for a traditional sing-along. It’s an exciting time of year and we’re pleased that residents are keeping active and enjoying the traditional festivities in their new surroundings.”
