Super heroes and fancy dress were amongst the characters to greet patients at Barlborough NHS Treatment Centre on Friday (13 November) as the team raised money for Children in Need.
Debbie Millar, the centre’s outpatients’ department clinical manager and one of the event organisers, said: “It was a great day and it made our patients smile. People dressed as Superman, Wonder Woman, pirates, elves, cartoon characters, pink ladies, and our clinical team also joined in by wearing tasteless tights and shocking socks under their uniforms.”
At the centre in Lindrick Way, Chesterfield, there were three raffle competitions, a cake sale full of goods baked by the team and a guess-the-baby competition. Along with donations the event raised £681.35 for the charity. Debbie will now be applying to Care UK’s match-funding scheme to double the money raised.
Debbie said: “Since 1980 Children in Need has raised more than £600 million to help change the lives and enhance the wellbeing of disabled children and young people in the UK. Over the years we have supported it and other children’s charities close to the team’s heart, such as the Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, through skydiving and running races. The team will always give their very best to support such great causes.”
Hospital director at the Care UK-run centre Martin Page said: “I am very proud of the team. They work hard to provide a first class service to patients yet they still find time to bake cakes, find the world’s most garish socks and raise money for a very worthwhile cause.”
