Residents celebrate official opening of new Eye care home

Residents and colleagues at Care UK’s new care home, Hartismere Place, on Castleton Way in Eye were delighted to join with the local community in celebration at the official opening of the new home.

The opening event took place on Wednesday 4th November, where residents Eva Fish and Alfie Elliott cut the ribbon alongside the home manager Cathryn Weed, Councillor Guy McGregor, Suffolk County Councillor for Hoxne and Eye, and Phillip Steyn, Care UK regional director.

Phillip Steyn said: “We are delighted to officially open Hartismere Place and we’re very pleased to share our special celebration with so many local people. I would like to say thank you to Suffolk County Council for working so effectively with us in the development and opening of the Hartismere Place care home and the adjacent day club, which is the penultimate to open in our Suffolk development plan.”

Councillor Beccy Hopfensperger, Suffolk County Council’s Cabinet Member for Adult Care, said: “It is fantastic that Hartismere Place is officially open for business. The facility offers both specialised residential care and great day care services that can be flexible and meet the needs of those living in their own homes. Providing good quality care is so important for our customers and Hartismere Place offers a brand new, welcoming and homely environment with plenty of activities on offer.”

Councillor Guy McGregor, Suffolk County Councillor for Hoxne and Eye, said: “I was pleased to participate in the official opening of the latest care home in Suffolk. Hartismere Place in Eye is a state of the art facility for 60 residents. It has all the amenities you would expect and perhaps, with the provision of a cinema, something which is not expected. This modern home should enable our older citizens to enjoy not just a wonderful facility but enable the staff to provide the highest level of care. I am looking forward to popping in to see the residents and staff from time to time and to enjoy the excellent coffee that it now has on offer.”

Residents moved from Paddock House care home in the town, which dated from the 1960s, to the new Hartismere Place throughout October 2015. The new home has dedicated residential, dementia and nursing suites, each with several spacious, light and airy lounges as well as the shared coffee shop, hairdressers, cinema and landscaped gardens. There are 60 ensuite bedrooms.

Cathryn Weed was appointed home manager at Hartismere Place in July 2015. Cathryn has spent the last four months getting to know each of the residents and their families, and recruiting and training her team. Alan Woods is manager at the adjacent Hartismere Club, where flexible day care services are provided for older people living locally.
