Hospital open day a huge success “On what I have seen I would definitely recommend to friends and fa

More than 760 people visited Emersons Green NHS Treatment Centre for its open day, finding out more about the hospital and helping it to celebrate its sixth birthday.

Visitors were glowing with their praise for the event. Comments included: “Will advise anyone and everyone what a fabulous, excellent hospital”; “excellent – it’s almost worth getting ill”; “would definitely like to choose this hospital if I ever needed treatment”; and, “glad we came and so impressed.”

Visitors had a go at keyhole surgery; checked how effective their handwashing technique is at getting rid of germs; tried CPR (basic life support); and tried matching surgical

instruments to the operations they are used for.

Those who came to the open day enjoyed the chance to look round the ward to see what the rooms are like (either one, two or four-bedded) and take a look at the hospital’s specially designed room for patients with dementia.

Basic eye tests and blood pressure tests were also be available, as were demonstrations of the innovative Pocket Physio app – designed to help patients manage their physio exercises before coming to hospital and after their operation.

The hospital’s Patient Forum were in attendance, and they talked to people about how they can get involved in the running of Emersons Green NHS Treatment Centre. The Great Western Air Ambulance Charity, the British Red Cross and St. John’s Ambulance were also there, as were Healthwatch.

The Care UK Recruitment Team were on hand with information about current vacancies and other opportunities.

Pamela Mackie, Hospital Director at Emersons Green NHS Treatment Centre, said: “We were delighted by the turn out on the day, and the positive comments we received about our staff and our facilities. It was great to have been able to show people our hospital first hand and explain to them that they can choose us for their NHS treatment by getting their consultant or GP to refer them here.”
