Ed Sheeran, who grew up with his family in Framlingham before rising to international fame as an acclaimed singer-songwriter, was pleased to meet and chat with residents and their relatives at the care home, as well as meet with Care UK colleagues.
Sue Hill, home manager at Mills Meadow, said: “We are over the moon that Ed could visit us and officially open our new ‘Sheeran Suite’. Ed is delightful, we are really grateful that he could spare the time in his busy schedule to pop in and meet us and see our wonderful new facilities here.”
Sue Hill took Ed Sheeran on a tour around the home’s new facilities, which were officially opened on Wednesday 7th October after undergoing a complete two-year redevelopment. The new home has 60 ensuite bedrooms, each divided into four smaller suites with their own lounge area and dining room. Each of the suite names, which highlight local icons and points of interest, were chosen by residents and Mills Meadow colleagues.
Resident Mary Swan, who moved to Mills Meadow from Lehmann House care home in Wickham Market in July, was pleased to help Ed Sheeran cut the special ribbon. Mary said: “It was a very exciting day and I enjoyed meeting Ed. I got his autograph!”
As a thank you, Care UK presented Ed Sheeran with a £500 cheque to a charity of his choice, of which he chose his patron charity the East Anglian Children’s Hospice. He was also presented with a ‘thank you’ Lego set, after the home heard that Lego is his favourite pastime.
