There will be a ribbon cutting ceremony at 2pm followed by tours around the care home and adjacent day club from 2.30pm to 7pm.
The redevelopment of Mills Meadow has taken place in two stages over the course of nearly two years, to minimise disruption to residents who have remained living in their home throughout the transformation. The first stage, to build new spacious en-suite accommodation, was completed in October 2014 and over the past 12 months the rest of the new facilities have been completed. These include a new day care centre, the Mills Meadow Club, which is already open. The Club is flexible to the needs of older members of the local community who still live independently in their own homes. It provides a freshly cooked hot lunch and has a varied programme of activities, entertainment and days out.
Sue Hill, home manager at Mills Meadow, said: “The past two years have been an exciting experience for residents here; watching the new home grow each day, the careful move of the old Mills Grammar School bell tower in July 2014, and recently welcoming new friends from Lehmann House in Wickham Market.
“Mills Meadow is an established part of the Framlingham community, so we hope many people will join us as we celebrate the official opening of the new home and day club on 7th October.”
Mills Meadow, which accommodates 60 older people, is the eighth of ten new care homes to open across the county as part of Care UK’s investment project to fulfil Suffolk County Council’s vision for older people’s care, in particular for additional specialist dementia and nursing care.
