Crawley care home to transform to Wild West village for Care Home Open Day

Care UK’s Francis Court care home in Copthorne near Crawley is inviting local people to visit the home on Borers Arms Road on Saturday 20^th June to join in its Wild West celebrations for Care Home Open Day.

From 11.30am until 4.30pm, Francis Court care home will be transformed into a Wild West village and its doors will be open for a free family-friendly event. To start the day in true cowboy style, there will be a fun line dancing session, followed by a lunchtime barbecue. Professional singer, Louise Trinick, will provide the live entertainment with a country and western-inspired set, and there will also be a visit from two miniature ponies.

The event at Francis Court is one of thousands planned throughout the UK for Care Home Open Day.  The annual initiative is aimed at challenging perceptions of care homes, creating lasting links between care homes, residents and their local communities, and developing relationships across the generations.

Nicola Palladino, home manager at Francis Court, said: “Care homes undoubtedly play an important role in the local community; however some people have preconceived ideas about the care environment and what day-to-day life is like for residents.  This is partly because they have never seen a modern care home for themselves. 

“We are therefore looking forward to getting behind Care Home Open Day on Saturday 20^th June.  We cannot wait to showcase everything Francis Court, has to offer and the difference care homes make to residents’ lives and their wellbeing.  We have planned a fun day for all the family and a warm welcome awaits the people of Crawley.”

Visitors to the Care Home Open Day event at Francis Court will also be able to pick up their copy of Care UK’s Good to Go.  The free guide highlights how important it is for those living with dementia – and their carers – to get out and about, and the emotional and physical benefits of staying active.

Good to Go provides practical advice on how to make the most of every outing, big or small, with words of encouragement volunteered by people working in Care UK care homes, as well as residents and family carers.  The guide can also be downloaded free at www.careuk.com/goodtogo.
