Blondie and Wish created a stir when they cantered into the care home. Everyone had the opportunity to stroke and pet the animals in a session which also included a short talk about how the ponies are looked after and which shows they take part during weekends. Later in the day, residents and their families enjoyed a special afternoon tea in the garden – a glass of Pimms and a slice of pony-shaped cake made especially for the occasion.
Danielle Plant, customer relations manager at Larkland House, said: “It was delightful to see how the arrival of the miniature ponies created rather a lot of excitement among everyone at Larkland House. Together with our guests from Age UK, we all had a wonderful day and you could see from the residents’ reactions just how engaged they were by the chance to get so close to such lovely, affectionate animals.
“Petting animals and being in their company can have proven therapeutic benefits, particularly for those living with dementia, and it was fantastic to see the smiles on everyone’s faces throughout the session. We are hopeful the ponies will make a return to Larkland House in the future.”
