Cheltenham care home celebrates first year anniversary

Care UK’s Sandfields care home recently celebrated its first year anniversary with a ‘Show Time’ themed party for residents.

Topping off a fantastic first year, residents, family and the team at Sandfields commemorated the anniversary with the special event. Party guests were treated to cake, canapés and prosecco in the home’s Steeplechase café, as well as live music from local Cheltenham entertainers Sheila Wilkins and Steve Franks.

Since opening its doors in February 2014, Sandfields has been home to 73 residents for long-term or respite care at the purpose-built home, which has celebrated many more milestones throughout the year.

Within five months of opening, Sandfields was given the seal of approval by national care watchdog, the Care Quality Commission, with relatives and residents praising the home’s caring team members. The CQC report commended the Sandfields team on meeting the government’s five national standards of quality and safety, which are:

  • Treating people with respect and involving them in their care;
  • Providing care, treatment & support that meets people's needs;
  • Caring for people safely & protecting them from harm;
  • Staffing; and
  • Management.

The home has also hosted events for the local community across the year including a care fee planning seminar, an afternoon with Dementia Friends, the Big Garden Birdwatch for RSPB and even a summer BBQ.

Ruth Baggs, home manager at Sandfields, said: “The first year anniversary is a very exciting milestone for us. We’re lucky to have had so many lovely residents who chose to make Sandfields their home in the past year. The party was a big thank you to the residents, their relatives and also our amazing team who provide the best possible care all year round. We also want to thank the local community for giving us a very warm welcome, and we look forward to meeting more Cheltenham residents in the year to come.”
