Anne Harley, who has lived at the home for over 14 years, turned 100 years young on Monday 19 January. Family and friends joined the Larkland House team for a tea party with a birthday cake, made by the home’s chef. There were also screenings of films made in 1915 in the home’s cinema, to celebrate the year Anne was born. There were many other highlights throughout the day, including a personal birthday card from the Queen.
Danielle Plant, customer relations manager, said: “Celebrating Anne’s 100th birthday was such an honour and everyone had a wonderful time. We always take the time to celebrate special days like birthdays and anniversaries and we like to make all residents feel at home by keeping to any traditions they may have.”
Anne was born in 1915 in Wokingham as the eldest of three children. She worked in out-patients at a hospital in Middlesex where she met her husband who was a medical student. They had two children, Lynne and Jill, and Anne now has two grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Anne has always led an active life and lists learning to fly a plane as one of her accomplishments. She moved to Larkland House in October 2000 and enjoys her time at the care home. Anne also shares her room with her beloved cat, Lulu, who was bought for Anne by the home manager when she first moved to Larkland House.
Larkland House has been designed to deliver the very best standards of care and to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives. The home provides full time residential, nursing and specialist dementia care, as well as short term respite and day care.
