Berkshire care home goes on a dementia adventure

People in Ascot are invited on a dementia adventure at Care UK’s Larkland House care home on Wednesday 5 November from 2:00pm to 5:00pm.

At the free event, Neil Mapes from Dementia Adventure will be joining the team at Larkland House to share his knowledge and provide practical tips for those caring for someone living with dementia. He will help people understand the condition, learn how memories are lost and give guidance on how to overcome communication barriers.

The free event is the first of 25 seminars that will be held throughout the year at various Care UK homes across the country. The program is part of an ongoing partnership between the care provider and Dementia Adventure and is designed to help family members and carers gain a clearer understanding of the condition.

After the event, Neil will be on hand to answer any questions and there will be an opportunity for members of the public to meet the carers at Larkland House.

Annie Lewis, home manager at Larkland House, said: “We understand being armed with plenty of expert advice and information can make all the difference for people caring for loved ones living with dementia. By inviting Dementia Adventure to host this free event in partnership with Care UK, we can ensure this information is communicated clearly and concisely, with visitors having the opportunity to speak directly to the professionals in this area as well as team members from the care home.”

Dementia affects 820,000 people in the UK and 25 million people have a close friend or family member living with the condition. 75 per cent of Care UK’s residents are living with various stages of dementia and the organisation offers extensive dementia training programs for all team members to ensure residents receive the highest quality care.

Those who attend the Dementia Adventure event will receive a copy of Care UK’s Listen, Talk, Connect – a free guide which helps friends and relatives to overcome the challenges they may face in having conversations and interacting with people living with dementia.
