Line dancing granny takes operations in her stride

A keen line dancer and singer in three choirs, 68-year-old Christine Palmer enjoyed an active lifestyle and didn’t skip a beat as she was able to keep up both her hobbies while undergoing two femoral hernia operations.

Last year, Christine recovered from her first hernia operation so quickly that when she needed further treatment there was only one place she considered going.

“I initially picked Care UK’s Emersons Green NHS Treatment Centre, from the choice of five other NHS providers, because of its convenience to home, high levels of patient satisfaction and no reported MRSA cases. I rebooked as my first experience there was so good.”

“My recovery was only two weeks and I put that down to a bit of everything. I like to think that my own determination to get better helped, along with rest and exercise.”

“I have recommended the treatment centre to others. All the staff members there were lovely, in particular my day surgeon.”

The Frampton Cotterell resident explained: “The Care UK centre was clean and there was free parking, which is always very helpful.”

Within two weeks of her operation, grandmother of five Christine was back driving, shopping and going for walks independently.

Care UK’s general surgeon Mr Peter Lassu said femoral hernia’s are quite uncommon, however, do appear in about one in every 20 groin hernias.

He says the treatment is done in under a few hours with patients able to return home the same day: “The repair operation is fairly routine, with few risks, and most patients make a full recovery within four weeks although many people are able to return to driving, work and light activities within two weeks.”
