Framlingham care home residents reunited with friends

Residents from Mills Meadow care home in Framlingham enjoyed a day of fun and games with their friends from the formerly adjacent wellbeing centre. The wellbeing centre has been temporarily relocated to Lehman House in Wickham Market whilst the redevelopment of Mills Meadow is underway.

Activities Coordinator at Mills Meadow, Roz Ingate, said: “The wellbeing centre customers have been at Lehmann House since construction began at Mills Meadow in November 2013. Wellbeing centre manager Julie Hurren has helped them settle in well at Lehman House but they did enjoy coming back here to see the construction progress of the new care home and wellbeing centre and also to catch-up and have fun with their friends.

We set up the old wellbeing centre into a bar with residents and wellbeing centre customers enjoying their favourite drinks whilst playing traditional bar games like pool and darts. It was a lot of fun and we look forward to many more days like this when the new Mills Meadow care home and wellbeing centre open in September 2015.”

The first phase of the Mills Meadow redevelopment is currently underway with the residents still living on site. The new home will be for up to 60 residents and will provide nursing and specialist dementia care in state-of-the-art facilities. There will also be a new wellbeing centre, which will offer day care services for older people living in their own homes locally, helping them to maintain their independence and providing valuable respite for family carers. The first construction phase is due to be complete in August 2014 and, once phase 2 is complete in September 2015, residents from Lehman House care home in Wickham Market will be given the option of moving into the new home with the current Mills Meadow residents.

The Mills Meadow care home and wellbeing centre development is part of Care UK’s £60 million investment into 10 new care homes and 10 wellbeing centres across the county. These will eventually replace the existing 16 care homes and 8 wellbeing centres, which were formerly owned by Suffolk County Council and were mostly built in the 1960s and 1970s.
