It’s not surprising that people in Ascot love horses, but finding our four-footed friends walking around a care home will be a first for many, as a pair of pat-therapy ponies come to Care UK’s Larkland House.
On Friday 10th January, American miniature ponies Mr P and Wish will be visiting residents at the home in London Road for a day of Wild West-themed fun.
Home manager Pauline Goh explained: “Many of our residents love horses and others have had pets and enjoy meeting animals and our home has two cats, Lulu and Ebony. When the residents heard we had the chance to meet Mr P and Wish they were very excited and our team are equally thrilled.
“The ponies are very well trained and travel in the lifts to ensure they can visit residents on all our floors and, for people who are unable to leave their rooms, the ponies can make house calls, so no one misses out.”
The home is abuzz about the ponies’ visit with everyone looking forward to taking part in the day’s activities. Pauline said: “We have a whole day of fun planned around the visit, including country music, American-themed food and cowboy movies. Our kitchen team have been very creative and have even found a way to turn cupcakes, the residents’ favourite, into the shape of a pony!”
