On Wednesday 6th November the 4th National Dementia Care Awards took place at the Colwick Hall Hotel, Nottingham. Care UK was fortunate enough to be nominated for three categories, one of which was the ‘Best Dignity in Care Champion’. The nominee was Lorraine Poulton, a residential carer at Place Court care home in Suffolk.
Lorraine was nominated by home manager Rebecca Abbink because she thought Lorraine was such a worthy winner. Here is a snippet of why Rebecca thought Lorraine deserved this award:
“Lorraine works with dementia residents, putting their needs and wishes at the heart of all that she does, promoting and maintaining their dignity throughout.
“Lorraine is fun to be around and is always making everyone smile with her jokes and funny ways. She listens to residents and hears what is being said, acting upon what she has heard and observed.
“She promotes choice and maintains residents’ dignity by enabling them to choose their clothing, what toiletries they would like to have on, helping apply makeup, choosing from the daily menu, where they would like to sit and eat, or what activity they would like to do.”
Unfortunately Lorraine did not win the award, but she continues to work as hard as ever at Place Court, where she has worked as a carer for over 10 years.
We are happy to arrange interviews with a range of experts, commentary on industry issues and site visits for filming, photography or sound recording. Please get in touch with your requirements and we will do our best to arrange a suitable response.
