Patient praises speedy knee operation at Shepton Mallet NHS Treatment Centre

When 67-year-old Trevor Telling was told his hip had reached the stage where it needed a replacement operation, the choice of treatment centre was not a difficult one for him.

Trevor, from Porlock near Minehead, knew a friend who had a knee operation carried out at Care UK’s Emersons Green NHS Treatment Centre and he has nothing but praise for how he was looked after. So when Trevor discovered Care UK had a centre at nearby Shepton Mallet, his mind was made up.

He said: “I’d heard that patients have a choice of where they have their operation so I spoke with my GP and she confirmed this was the case so I said I would like to go to Shepton Mallet NHS Treatment Centre. Within two weeks I was seeing the specialist there – I couldn’t believe how quickly it happened.

“The whole experience from this point on was first class,” said Trevor. “I had the necessary tests and was given lots of information and actually offered an appointment for the operation the following week. However, I was due to go on holiday in a couple of weeks so asked if we could wait until I came back. I was told this was not a problem and I would be contacted with a date. Sure enough, I received a call on my mobile whilst on holiday with a date. I was very reassured by the efficiency of it all.

“When I went in for the operation, I was put at ease from the word go. Everyone from the receptionist – what a pleasant change to be greeted properly – to the pre-op chap, the surgeon and the nurses were all first class and so helpful. Nothing was too much trouble.

“I stayed in for two nights. The after-care was wonderful and the food was excellent. Overall, it was a wonderful experience and I would have no hesitation in recommending the centre to anybody.”
